I believe an otaku is a person who is obsessed with anime, not just a casual viewer.

For example, I am a casual viewer, but Worf is an otaku.

Also, when you've literally watched hundreds of anime, it helps.

I do believe that Worf and I are the only two official Otaku here. Maybe with Deoxi being an exception (Tada, bade, love you <3).

I would just count you as a casual viewer. Someone who was disappointed with Brotherhood is no Otaku! The original FMA sucked. Hard.

Though the first few episodes brought in a bigger impact in the story, Brotherhood had a better ending. Why does it have a better ending you ask? Because it was all based on the manga. Something that the original did until a point. Then it turned to shit.

I didn't ask though... You are speaking to an Otaku God.

If you want to consider yourself an Otaku, just go to random anime try an episode and see if you like it. After you do that a few times you will feel the need to experience it more and more and before you know it you will have achieved the Otaku status you seem to desire.

I am aware of that, I'm just clearing it up for everyone else.

Y'know
this topic still scares me. No offense but sometimes I think you guys are legit weaboos and my inner desire to purge friendzonies come out -then I realize you aren't friendzonies just obsessed with anime in the same way I am with Star Wars.
tbh at first glance I want to gas you then my whole understanding emotion kicks in. Hug me, lets all cry together. Please.

The actual meaning of the word Otaku is someone who is obsessed with a particular hobby, so you are technically an Otaku by Japanese meaning as you are obsessed to a certain degree with Star Wars. We call ourselves Otaku as if it means we are anime enthusiasts because that is what American culture defines an Otaku as.
